Babies First Green Smoothie
One question I get asked all the time is “when can I introduce smoothies to my baby?”.
And since green smoothies are in my opinion the ultimate smoothie and one of the best drinks you can introduce into your baby's diet early on I thought I would share a delicious, healthy, and perfect green smoothie for your baby to start with.
What Age Can I Introduce Baby To A Smoothie?
I recommend introducing smoothies from around 7-8 months of age. The first month of starting solids is a great time to tick off fruit, vegetables, greens, iron-rich foods, and healthy fats.
It's about easing baby into solids, letting them have fun, and getting them to use to having a meal 1-2 x a day.
The Perfect First Green Smoothie For Baby:
I love this green smoothie so much for baby because it contains;
- Pineapple -which is a great fruit to help with digestion. Perfect for babies still figuring out solids.
- Ginger - which is a beautiful warming spice that is alsogreat for digestion
- Banana – Which is full of magnesium, brings a yummy natural sweetness, and is a great energy-boosting easy to digest food for baby
- Spinach – Getting your baby used to leafy greens early on is so important. This is when their taste buds are developing so you have a window to add in foods that baby might not naturally try but will surprisingly love. Spinach is also great for iron which all babies need a lot of.
- Lemon – This helps to absorb the iron from the spinach and hemp hearts and brings a great freshness and flavour to the smoothie
- Avocado – Babies need around 30% of their diet from healthy fats so adding avocado to smoothies can be a great way to help meet this daily need. It also tastes great and makes it super creamy.
- Pear – Pear is a great fruit for babies. It's super easy to digest, sweet, and helps with any constipation baby might hard during those first few months of solids.
- Hemp Hearts – I love hemp hearts for babies as they are full of iron, protein, omegas, and healthy fats.
- Water or coconut water – Super hydrating for baby. You could also use plant milk like oat milk here if you wanted it creamy.
The Perfect Smoothie For Mama And Baby:
All my recipes are designed for little ones and mamas. I know how busy you are each day and I never want to tell you about the recipe that only works for your kids and this green smoothie is the perfect example of that.
It’s a great green smoothie to have as a busy mama as its light, hydrating, full of natural sweetness, will keep you full and gets in those daily greens. I normally divide it up into four glasses and we all enjoy some which is such a great way to show your baby and older children that you love green smoothies and that it's a delicious and healthy drink that the whole family can share.
