My Favourite Immune Boosting Foods, Powders, and Supplements For Kids

I don’t know about you but as soon as the temperature starts to drop I start making sure Georgia and Luca’s diet is absolutely jam-packed with so much goodness to help strengthen their immune system before Winter hits.

Here is a list of my go-to favourites that I add in each week;Foods:

  • Fresh Turmeric – I love adding a small knob to our morning green juice or the kid's berry smoothie. You can hardly taste it and it’s a great way to get this immune-boosting, anti-inflammatory superfood into their diet with ease.
  • Oranges – A great way to add in vitamin C. I like to peel 1 to 2 and add them straight into the blender with whatever smoothie we’re making that morning.
  • Wild Blueberries – These antioxidant-rich super berries are incredible for kids. My guys eat them every day with their porridge or Weet-Bix and they love them. They are also delicious in smoothies or mixed into chia puddings when still warm. Yum!
  • Bee Pollen – just 1 tsp of bee pollen offers so many vitamins and minerals into their body its amazing. I call it their multivitamin whole food. Add to smoothies, mix into porridge or sprinkle on top of yogurt. No more than ½ a tsp per child as it's very strong.
  • Sauerkraut – My guys devour sauerkraut which makes me so happy. I try to offer it most days with their Dinner or Lunch as it's a great immune booster and is fantastic for their gut health. We love Be Nourished sauerkraut.
  • Goji Berries – These berries are packed with vitamin C and help boost your immune system. I add a few tbsp to our morning porridge and berry smoothies. They are also great blended into bliss balls.

Powders:
  • Spirulina – An incredible protein-rich superfood that I am always trying to add to the kid's diet. My favourite way is still my Berry Spirulina Smoothie.
  • Barley Grass – Another incredible green powder to add in that can be hidden a lot easier than spirulina. Add 1 tbsp to all green and berry smoothies to give them a super boost of nutrients.
  • Nutraorganic Berry Immune powder – I add 1 tbsp to our berry or chocolate smoothies and it’s so yummy and a great way to get a dose of vitamin C, zinc, iron, and Vitamin D into their diets with ease.
  • Nutraorganics C Berry Blast – Another great powder that my kids love. I normally mix this into their healthy ice block mix with banana, berries, oranges, and coconut water.
  • Reishi Powder- This medicinal mushroom powder is incredible for building a strong immune system. I like to add ½ a tsp to the kid's breakfast porridge, yogurt, or smoothie for some extra protection during winter. Superfeast is my go-to brand.

Supplements:

Note all the supplements below can be purchased from IE Produce .

  • Gardenoflife Vitamin D Spray – I give this to the kids in winter only when they don’t get as much sunshine and to help boost their immune system. One spray a week is perfect for little ones.
  • Harker Herbals Children’s Immune Build– This is a daily vitamin for my little ones to help build a strong immune system. They have around ½ - 1 tsp a day and they love it. Use code ‘renee10’ for 10% off the Harker Herbal range.
  • Harker Herbal Children’s Vira Guard – I give this to the kids when I start to see the signs of a cold popping up. I love it because you can give small doses throughout the day and they both love the taste. We go through so much of this during Winter. I also have the adult one which I take in Winter.
  • Gardenoflife Vitamin Code Kids – Georgia takes one of these a day just as an extra boost in Winter or when she’s fighting a cold. She loves them and it’s a great way to give you a broad range of vitamins at once.

Wow, that’s a big list. Of course, it’s still super important to be focusing on adding in lots of whole foods, minimal sugar, lots of water, leafy greens, and vibrant fruits and vegetables as well as getting them outside in the sunshine every single day. All of this helps and works to keep your little ones' immune system strong and healthy.

Will doing all of this protect your kids from getting all colds, no probably not, my guys still get hit all the time with kindy bugs but they bounce back fast (especially Georgia) and I think that’s a better sign of a healthy, strong immune system.
