My Berry Spirulina Smoothie

I have to say My Berry Spirulina Smoothie is probably one of my all time favourite smoothies. And that’s saying a lot as I love smoothies!

The reason I love my Berry Spirulina Smoothie so much is because it’s;

  • Jam-packed with antioxidants and superfoods (thank you wild blueberries, spinach, and spirulina)
  • It ticks off your daily greens
  • It’s high in protein, iron, and calcium (or as I like to call the triple threat)
  • It’s slightly sweet which makes it perfect for little kiddies who let’s be honest are always stealing sips.
  • It’s insanely energizing. I love it post-workout or in the afternoon when I need a little boost in my step.

I could go on and on but all you need to know is that this smoothie is epic, it tastes incredible, it's easy to make and it’s so unbelievably good for you. Oh, and your kids will love it.

The perfect smoothie for your kids:

This is such a great recipe to get your kids having each day as it ticks off a bunch of their daily nutrient needs. Plus since it’s sweet and contains berries most kids will love the taste and have no problem drinking it, none the wiser to the big handful of leafy greens and superfood powder that you mixed in. High five!

Spirulina 101:

Spirulina is one of my secret weapons as a busy mama. I am obsessed with it and have been adding it into my diet for years because it's:

  • Rich in plant-protein (1 tsp = 3.7grams)
  • Rich in iron (1 tsp = 8.7mg of iron!) and magnesium
  • Full of antioxidants
  • It’s a superfood and is such an easy way to get in your daily greens
  • It’s a fantastic energy booster and immune-boosting food

Basically, it’s amazing and if you haven’t used it before here’s your reminder to pick up a bag and start adding it into your diet.

How to use Spirulina:

  • Add it to your morning smoothie (my ebook has a few options)
  • Mix it into some mashed banana and hemp hearts for baby
  • Add it to baking. The other day I made some spirulina banana muffins and it worked great!
  • Add to bliss balls with dates and cashews

My Berry Spirulina Smoothie

Serves 2Note: If you don’t have frozen banana’s that’s totally ok. Simply add in a handful of ice at the end to make it extra cold.

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 frozen banana’s
  • 1 cup of frozen berries (wild or mixed berries work best)
  • 1 tbsp of spirulina powder
  • 3-4 small dates (or 1 large Medjool date)
  • A handful of baby spinach
  • 1-2 cups of coconut water (or water)

Method:

  1. Add all the ingredients into your blender and blitz on high until smooth and creamy. Add more coconut water if needed to get the desired consistency.
  2. Pour into cups and enjoy.
